10 Topic Ideas to Create Disruptive Slideshare Presentations

On: Nov 27, 2014 , in PowerPoint Presentation / General PowerPoint presentation Tips
In 2013, it was reported Slideshare averages 60 million users with 20% of them visiting from Google. But it has recently become a hot topic in the blogosphere. Many tips and tactics have been shared, but there’s always room for more content ideas – especially when you want to create refreshing and disruptive slideshare presentations.

In a recent post I wrote about Slideshare I listed five major tips for making your slideshares spicy even if it’s your first one. But what happens when you’re strapped for time? Or you’re ready to experiment with topics you don’t normally consider? How can you become recognized for your Slideshares?

Today, after reading this article, you will benefit from:

- Five fill-in-the-blank topics.
- Five actionable concepts to build your Slideshare on.
- Being absolved of any creative blocks you may have had concerning your next Slideshare!

Keep in mind, these are better suited for B2B audiences, considering SlideShare receives 500 percent more traffic from business owners than the sweet quartet of Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and LinkedIn.

1) Gather quotes (on leadership, user experience, content marketing, etc).

You could gather some awesome quotes from a conference, do some quick research or ask your network for a piece of advice. Then you can create two templates for your slides: one for the transition, and one for the quotes. Make it stunning!

2) Repurpose a lengthy blog post.

Hopefully you have some long form blogs with interesting statistics and information (Google loves some of that). You’d be surprised at how many slides you could probably create from just one or two blogs! Extract the most shocking statistics, give each one it’s own slide with some actionable takeaways to drive home your message.

3) A Story with a Subject, Problem and Solution

Maybe you could think about the Hero’s journey? Follow the P-A-S formula: tell the problem, agitate and offer a solution. Give your target customer audience solutions in an interesting way and they may think of you next time they need someone to help them in their journey (which actually involves a mentor – in other words, you!)

4) Trends and Predictions

Disruptive? Maybe not always, but…what if you did NOT wait until the end of the year!? Do it when you sense there’s a new trend creeping up or you have some unique predictions? Instead of a blog in December/January like everybody else, do it with visuals when you’re inspired.

5) The Battle of _____ (Fill in the blanks!)

Think one social media platform or tool is better than another popular one? Are you Instagram or Vine? You could have a standoff! Again, this would only require two or three templates: one for each product/concept and compare and contrast their features and advantages.

6) The Changing Landscape of ____ that Will Keep You Up at Night

What should your audience be thinking about? What major shifts are happening in your industry?

7) # Myths You Should Break (Some rules are meant to be broken!)

8) The New Rules of ______ (Then there are meant to be some rules!)

What’s happening in your field of work that cannot be ignored?

9) What Would {Insert Name} Do?

Think of a disruptive business leader or organization (Maybe Telsa or Jack Dorsey?). You can think of other types of leaders related to the topic you’d like to cover – work culture, business strategy, sustainability, healthcare, design, etc. (Inspired by HubSpot’s What Would Steve Do? Slideshare!) You could even look at Inc’s 25 Most Audacious companies for inspiration.

10) The Most Audacious and Game-Changing Behaviors to Follow

I just remembered how much I love that word after sharing that link in the last suggestion. Do you admire any gutsy moves – like banning comments on your blog, Starbucks reimbursing their employees’ bachelor degrees through ASU’s online campus or crazy corporate acquisitions? You could go far back in time or stay current. Either way, that’s a spicy roundup anyone would love to read!

Hopefully this reduces any intimidation of coming up with attention-grabbing slideshare presentations. Being perpetually neutral in content marketing will get a little stale, and with over 60 million visits to Slideshare every month, we can’t afford to play it safe!
What are some disruptive topics you would like to see?
Do you have a preference for practical, how-tos or opinionated slideshares?
